echoes
description:
Echoes editorial embodies a persona of a possible silent movie actress, a diva rarely seen out of the studio setting. She is seen as only existing in a world of couture, never ageing and immortalised. She is shadow and light, might not even exist in a physical form. The shoot focuses on the reflection of the 20th century's iconic black-and-white aesthetic, as seen in the work of photographers like George Hoyningen-Huene, Gösta Peterson, and Ron Falloon. Reinterpreting that past style in a shadow play of couture dressing, the shoot employs a high-contrast black-and-white photographic approach in a studio setting. Using light and shadow techniques directs the viewer’s eye directly to the pieces, highlighting the importance and craftsmanship of the garments, an element that can be easily overlooked in the world of conceptual and highly saturated image-making. Among the vast aspects that are involved in the making of couture, I chose to focus on the silhouettes and cuts of the garments, putting emphasis on geometric shapes, voluminous skirts, puffed and long sleeves. Further accessories, including hats and bags, are used to elevate the shape of the outfits further.
